Bioimaging

Bioimaging plays a vital role in disease diagnosis. The microstructure images of cells and tissues can be obtained directly by bioimaging technology. In the actual study of bioimaging, it is often necessary to use a higher concentration of fluorescent probe to ensure the quality of the image. Especially in vivo imaging, in order to reduce the volume of fluorescent probes injected into the body, a sufficient number of probes are needed to obtain bright images. Therefore, the biocompatibility of the probes must be improved. Ionic liquids are generally organic salts composed of cationic and anionic moieties. The unique characteristics of ionic liquids, such as negligible vapor pressure, high chemical/thermal stability, and the diversity of the choice for cationic and anionic moieties, endow them excellent biocompatibility, so they can be used in the preparation of all kinds of fluorescent probes to facilitate bioimaging.

Accelerate Research and Practice of Ionic Liquids in Bioimaging

It is well known that ionic liquids have favorable biocompatibility and tunable structural properties, which are suitable for bioimaging studies. For example, ionic liquids can be used as carbon sources (precursors), solvents, stabilizers and modifiers for the preparation of a variety of carbon dots (CDs) fluorescent probes, a new class of carbon-based fluorescent nanomaterials widely used in bioimaging studies in recent years. Through the ways, ionic liquids can not only mediate the physicochemical properties of CDs, including size and morphology, hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity, surface functional groups, but also play a key role in regulating the optical properties of CDs. Therefore, the obtained CDs has significantly enhanced biocompatibility and excellent fluorescence characteristics, which facilitate bioimaging applications.

Solutions for Bioimaging

A large number of studies have shown that using ionic liquids with tunable structure and excellent biocompatibility as precursors, solvents, stabilizers and modifiers for the preparation of a variety of fluorescent probes is an effective approach to improve the biocompatibility of probes. In addition, the fluorescence characteristics and biological behaviors of fluorescent probes can be significantly mediated by ionic liquids. This provides great potential for improving the performance of fluorescent probe materials on their future bioimaging applications. With in-depth knowledge of bioimaging theory and advanced ionic liquid technology, Alfa Chemistry has the ability to provide effective solutions to a variety of problems encountered in the application of ionic liquids in bioimaging, thus contributing to the development of the medical industry and human health.
