Magnetic Ionic Liquids

Inquiry

Organic magnetic materials overcome the shortcomings of traditional magnetic materials such as high density, difficulty in precision machining and large magnetic loss, and have broad potential application prospects in the fields of high-tech and cutting-edge technology. Ionic liquids are salts composed of organic cations and inorganic anions that are liquid at or near room temperature. Magnetic ionic liquids refer to ionic liquids that can be adsorbed on a magnet, have a macroscopic response to an external magnetic field, and have a certain degree of magnetization under the action of an external magnetic field. Magnetic ionic liquid is a kind of functionalized ionic liquid with magnetism, which has the characteristics of wide liquid range, low vapor pressure and good dissolving ability of general ionic liquid. In organic synthesis, it can be used as a solvent and catalyst and template. The product is easy to separate, recyclable and reusable, and the catalytic activity is not significantly reduced after recovery. The microstructure of the product can be adjusted by applying an external magnetic field. In addition, it also has unique advantages in the fields of separation analysis and nanomaterial preparation. After covalent bonding with carbon nanotubes, various magnetic carbon nanotubes can be prepared.

Applications:

  • Catalyst: Magnetic ionic liquids can act as solvents and catalyst templates. For catalytic polymerization, in the polymerization synthesis process of polymer microspheres, magnetic ionic liquid is used as a catalyst to obtain nanometer microspheres with relatively uniform particle size. In addition, magnetic ionic liquids can also be used to catalyze Friedel-Crafts reactions, Grignard coupling reactions, cyclization reactions and depolymerization reactions.
  • Preparation of magnetic carbon nanotubes: The magnetic ionic liquid reacts with carbon nanotubes to obtain magnetic carbon nanotubes. It has great potential application value in magnetic appliances, bio-nano engineering, biomedicine, etc.
  • Absorbents: Organic volatiles in the environment have become an important pollution concern. Magnetic ionic liquids can show good absorption of benzene waste gas. The reason is that benzene has greater solubility in the magnetic ionic liquid, which can make benzene more fully dispersed in the magnetic ionic liquid absorbent.
